The Church of Ireland has donated £20,000 to combat the disastrous drought in east Africa, the worst for 60 years, and the church is appealing to its members for more money.
This is a cause worth supporting. However, when I went into a First Trust Bank this week to donate to the East Africa Appeal, it took them a surprisingly long time to find the account number into which to pay my money. Bank managers please note.
The suffering is almost too awful to watch and the picture of starving people there is a sorry contrast to the well-fed yobs from our loyalist and republican areas who have been pelting the police with petrol bombs and stones. The world is indeed ill-divided.
