Hugo Duncan: Yodelling Joe back on road after health trouble
I often think that there should be a 'Where are they now?' series launched for country singers and musicians.
People come and go on the scene and quite often it is possible to lose touch with those you might have known well.
Imagine my surprise, therefore, when I bumped into the very popular Joe E Hamilton the other night.
The Banbridge man enjoyed a very high profile on the Ulster entertainment scene in years gone by and I had noticed his absence and wondered where he had gone.
But all was revealed by Joe himself when he told me that he had encountered major health problems, which had forced him to park his singing career for some time.
Yet, in true showbusiness fashion, as soon as his health improved, he eased himself back into the spotlight and when I met him he sounded great.
Joe has always been regarded as a very polished entertainer and some of the songs he has recorded - including When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold, Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On and Mocking Bird Hill - have stood the test of time.

Not only is Joe a fine singer, but he is also a very proficient yodeller - the high notes were certainly never a problem for him.
He tells me that he is performing again at concerts and I was particularly delighted to hear that.
In the past, Joe has never been slow to throw his weight behind a good cause and no doubt he will continue to do so now that he is back in the swing of things.
I wish him well for the future and hope that he keeps truckin'.
