Eurovision is one of those annual events that people either enthusiastically love or hate, but there is no doubt that hosting the contest is a coup for any country.

Bringing with it colourful, camp flamboyance, there are huge opportunities for tourism and hospitality.

Belfast would no doubt benefit from hosting Eurovision 2023, and all of Northern Ireland could get behind the bid, helping to organise a concert on a scale never before seen in the city.

Ukraine, the worthy winner last time, is experiencing the full horrors of war. Northern Ireland knows only too well the trauma of conflict. What an amazing opportunity to join the nations together in solidarity with each other, showing there is always hope no matter how bleak the situation.

Music is a great leveller that unites people regardless of any language barrier.

It is heartening that so many celebrities are already getting behind the bid.

What an opportunity to show the world that light always comes after darkness.
