At the end of every political career, there is a balance sheet to be drawn up, and it is a rare occasion when the credits vastly outnumber the debits. Arlene Foster, who was forced to resign as leader of the DUP by her erstwhile colleagues, acknowledged there were successes and failures in her five years at the helm.

She was feted by the party for leading it to record electoral successes in the 2016 Assembly and the 2017 general election, which were the undoubted highlights of her leadership.
