Good news stories have been hard to come by during almost two years of the Covid pandemic, but every so often one comes along to warm the heart.

The story of Co Armagh great-grandmother Rebecca Gilfillan (page 8) is the perfect example.

Now aged 103, the Lurgan mother-of-three spent two weeks in hospital on a palliative care programme earlier this year. She had no solid food for 10 of those days.

Her family were told to say their goodbyes, with doctors telling them her heart would eventually fail.

After making an incredible recovery, she contracted Covid earlier this month, just in time for her birthday.

But Rebecca is made of the strongest possible stuff. More than surviving, she has made a remarkable comeback and will enjoy the festive season back in the comfort of her care home.

The Christmas miracle is still alive and kicking.
