Editor's Viewpoint: Ford also on trial

As David Ford settles into his job as Policing and Justice Minister, there are several pressing issues that he should address as a matter of urgency.

The most obvious is ensuring that every resource is made available towards combating the threat from dissident republicans.

On the justice side, Mr Ford should investigate our soaring legal bills, which affect every aspect of the administration of justice and whether bail conditions should be tightened to stop criminals re-offending while awaiting trial. As the first local person to control policing and justice in almost 40 years, the new minister is also on trial.
