Who would have imagined it? Prime Minister Boris Johnson is being urged to make The Twelfth a national holiday. After years of the rest of the UK making snide remarks about Orangemen dressing up in strange regalia and lighting bonfires to celebrate the victory of William of Orange over King James, the nation now wants Monday to be designated a day off work.

Well, Monday may be July 12 but the demand for a national holiday is inspired by football, not the myopic politics of Northern Ireland.
