Frances Connolly celebrating with husband Patrick after their £115m win in January 2019

Not many of us really believe in the old adage that it is better to give than to receive, and fewer still put it into practice, but a Northern Ireland couple, who won a life-changing £115m on the lottery, are proof that it is true.

For Frances and Patrick Connolly have given away half of their fortune to friends and families and are constantly on the lookout for good causes to support.

It is an amazing tale of generosity which goes to show that money can indeed buy happiness, if used in the right way. It was only hours after learning of their win on New Year's Day 2019 that the couple sat down and drew up a list of close friends and family who they wanted to share they good fortune with. Those people - now totalling around 150-175 - in turn have helped others, spreading a network of joy.

But even a lottery sized fortune cannot buy one thing that is beyond value - good health. Frances knows she will end up in a wheelchair because of a long-standing joint problem but she faces the future without fear. An inspiring woman.
