Talented actress Julie Maxwell was just 36 when she died suddenly on a night out in Belfast in August 2019. Although paramedics rushed to the scene, Julie was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Now, two years on from the tragedy, Julie’s best friend and long-time co-writer, Caroline Curran, returns to the stage in her first solely written project, Jingle All The Hairspray: A Christmas Hairytale.
Caroline says she still feels as if a part of her is missing and that time hasn’t healed the grief at losing her “other half”.
She is frank enough to admit she’s petrified that, without her close collaborator, she isn’t good enough.
On days when the heartache threatened to overwhelm her, it was her baby daughter, Molly, now aged three, who gave her a reason to get out of bed.
The truth is everyone processes grief differently. It is, as the Queen said at the time of the 9/11 attacks in 2001, “the price we pay for love”.
It would take a hard heart not to think that, somewhere, Julie will be laughing along with the audience at the Theatre at the Mill in Newtownabbey.
