Eamonn Holmes has long been the avuncular face of broadcasting, Northern Ireland’s greatest television export and a man who makes his high pressure job look easy.
He is known as someone who never turns down work, making him a constant presence on national television since leaving UTV, but there may be some unpaid duties for him in the offing.
For Eamonn has become a grandfather at 61 — he joked that he may now enter beautiful grandfather competitions — after his son Declan and wife Jenny welcomed their first child, daughter Amelia.
There was no disguising the delight on Eamonn’s face at the arrival of his first grandchild.
It was certainly good news for him as earlier this year the broadcaster spoke about his own health problems having been diagnosed with a dislocated pelvis and three slipped discs in March which led to him virtually having to learn to walk again.
He had better hope his condition improves as his granddaughter no doubt will test his mobility as she grows and demands more attention.
