Our restaurants really have recipe for success

Northern Ireland continues to shine on the biggest stage. We are well used to the province punching far above its weight in areas like sport or the arts, but this time it is for the quality of our restaurants.

While the hospitality sector has suffered greatly during the coronavirus pandemic, Belfast's three Michelin-starred restaurants have maintained their premier status, as have the five restaurants with Bib Gourmand awards.

These awards are the Oscars of the culinary field, and for restaurants here to continue to rub shoulders with the great names of that world is an exceptional tribute to their chefs and staff.

Sadly, for large parts of the past year the public has been unable to enjoy the fruits of their labour, but it will make the food taste all the better when the restaurants do open for business again.

We should not forget another exceptional local chef, Clare Smyth, who has now received an astonishing third Michelin star for her London restaurant, Core.
