I won’t be a rock star. I will be a legend — famous words from one Freddie Mercury at the start of his career with the rock band Queen.
e was right. He became widely recognised as the greatest front man of all time. Watch Live Aid at Wembley for a virtuoso course in how to control an audience. Anyone who watches that can do nothing but become Freddie for that moment in time. It was perfection.
And now we know even Her Majesty and Paddington Bear are well in tune with the legend. Now it seems his old mates in the band, Brian May and Roger Taylor, have unearthed a never-before-released song from the late 1980s, with Face It Alone now planned for release later this year.
It’s 21 years since Freddie Mercury died. There are bound to be plenty more unreleased gems lying around in recording studios that fans of the band might want to have a listen to — in the hope they weren’t left behind for good reason.
But let’s face it, Freddie could even sing Sweet Caroline backed by the imperious Brian May and make it worth listening to again.
