There’s been little in the way of good news for the airline industry at a time when many of us are looking forward to a summer holiday.
ut amid all the delays and cancellations, there’s finally some light at the end of the long, dark tunnel.
Ryanair’s hokey-cokey over Belfast International Airport has ended, and the dancing for joy can begin.
Alicante, Edinburgh, Faro, Gdansk, Barcelona, Krakow, Malaga, Manchester, Milan and Paris are just some of the destinations served by these new routes.
People need holidays and the business community needs connections. More broadly, Northern Ireland needs these routes open, available and, given the cost-of-living crisis, running at a price we can all afford.
The bad news is that the great escape will have to wait until next summer.
But at least that should give the airport time to ensure it can cope with the expected increase in the number of passengers heading for the departure gates.
We’ll take that. Let’s hope Ryanair is back for good.
