Vital that government continues to find funding for hospice
The work of the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice is invaluable. Every year it helps 300 terminally-ill children and their families cope with the most distressing circumstances imaginable. The level of care and consolation provided is exceptional and that is reflected in the esteem in which the organisation is held by the public.
Some 80% of its £3m annual running costs are met by public and corporate fundraising and by generous donors. Now Stormont has provided £1m over two years to help the hospice continue and expand it work.
Even in these straitened times it is proper that government finds money for the hospice.
