Belfast Businesses under starters orders for the Citi Inspire 5k run
The second Citi Inspire Run will take place in Belfast this year on Thursday September 6, starting at 6.30 pm.
The five kilometre race will be held in the Titanic Quarter starting from Citi’s Gateway building at Sydenham Road to Victoria Park and returning the same route. The Lord Mayor, Cllr. McAllister will officially launch the event at Belfast City Hall on May 8.
This year, proceeds raised by participants will be donated to the NSPCC NI charity which was chosen by Citi employees. All funds donated will remain in Northern Ireland.
In 2017, the sum of £13,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. Olympic gold medalist Dame Mary Peters got the inaugural event off to a flying start.
Leigh Meyer, Managing Director, for Citi Belfast is encouraging as many companies as possible in the Belfast area to get involved.
Mr. Meyer said: “It is a friendly competition and free to enter. It is a really important way to bring the business community together and we want as many teams as possible to take part. This is an excellent race in terms of team-building, it promotes health and wellbeing and community engagement which are a big part of our culture at Citi.
Last year, the winning team completed the circuit in just 15 minutes with most runners completing the route within an hour.”
In 2017 six companies were represented at the Citi Inspire Run with a total of 600 runners joining the line-up at Titanic Quarter including one fifth of Citi’s own employees.
Citi is confident that it will almost double the overall entry for the Inspire run this September and is inviting companies from the Belfast area to pull on their running shoes and join them at the starting line.
Mr. Meyer has extended his thanks to the Harbour Police for their support of the event.
The Citi Inspire 5K Challenge Cup will be presented to the winner.
