The ritual of Afternoon Tea owes its origins to Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford. As a young lady living in the early 1800s it was common to eat only two meals a day, with breakfast early in the morning and dinner late in the evening. Often being tired and hungry, she decided to set a time to take tea and a light snack each afternoon. This private ceremony initially took place in her bedroom, but over time her well-heeled acquaintances were invited to join her and her much loved tradition of Afternoon Tea has remained popular around ever since.
Nowadays this centuries-old tradition is loved by people around the word and it is one that Hastings Hotels does to perfection. With National Afternoon Tea Week taking place from 14th – 20th August, it’s the perfect excuse to visit a Hastings Hotel to enjoy a delightful Afternoon Tea with your friends!
