Antrim beat Americans GPS Bayern in Super Cup NI final

By Keith Bailie

County Antrim have triumphed in the junior section of SuperCupNI, making them the first Northern Irish side to do so since 1989.

Stefan Seaton's boys dominated the showpiece final at the Ballymena Showgrounds, defeating American academy side Gobal Premier Soccer (GPS Bayern) 2-0.

Darren Hyland gave Antrim the lead in the first half with a stunning 25-yard shot, before substitute Gerard Story sealed the win with a second half header.

Long-serving coach Seaton said: “This is just the start of the players’ careers.

“A few of them are attracting serious interest and they have to push on in the Victory Shield with Northern Ireland now.

“They should showcase themselves and be the best they can be."

The victory came ahead of Ghanaian side Right to Dream's 2-1 victory in their Premier Section clash against Mexican side Club America.
