Belfast Giants can flourish ahead of looming cup decider: Keefe
Adam Keefe has described this weekend's clashes against the Sheffield Steelers and Cardiff Devils as the perfect games for his Belfast Giants a week before the Challenge Cup final.
Keefe, however, won't allow his players to begin casting their eyes towards the decider against the Devils in Cardiff next Sunday.
Back-to-back defeats against the Edinburgh Capitals and Milton Keynes Lightning last weekend put a severe dent in the Giants' Elite League title aspirations, but Keefe is taking on the mantra of 'it ain't over til it's over'.
"We have had big performances against teams in our own conference and the way the schedule has worked out it is the perfect weekend in terms of preparation for the Challenge Cup final," said Keefe ahead of tonight's home clash with the Steelers.
"I hope the players haven't been focusing on the final. It is a big game, but I don't want it being a distraction."
The Giants have slipped into third in the league table and are 13 points behind Cardiff.
"It's Cardiff's to lose and they would need to go on a serious slide, but it can happen and we've seen it happen," said Keefe. "We have to focus on our own game."
