Carl Frampton eyes more history with three-weight World titles

By David Kelly

Carl Frampton says he wants to make even more history in 2017 as he counts down to his blockbuster showdown with Leo Santa Cruz on January 28 at the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas.

Frampton, who was joined in Vegas last night by manager Barry and coach Shane McGuigan, is aiming to become the first Irish boxer to win World titles at three different weights.

When defeating Santa Cruz last summer to win the WBA World featherweight title, he became the first Northern Ireland boxer to win titles at two different weights.

"I want to be a three-weight World champion. That is the goal," said Frampton.

"It wasn't necessarily at the start of my career. When you reach targets you set new goals and Steve Collins is the only other Irishman to hold World titles in different divisions, so I want to stand alone. I'm almost 30 and I feel I am getting better."
