Carl Frampton fight cancelled after Gutierrez accident
Saturday night's Belfast showdown between Carl Frampton and Andres Gutierrez has been cancelled after the Mexican fighter was hurt in a freak accident.
In a statement on Friday evening, Frampton's promoter Cyclone Promotions said that it hopes the event will be re-scheduled.
Ticket holders are advised to retain their tickets and contact their point of purchase.
"We very much regret the inconvenience caused," the statement reads.
"Cyclone Promotions and The SSE Arena regret to announce that the “Return of The Jackal” event scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 29th July, has been cancelled due to an accident to Andres Gutierrez.
"It is hoped that the event will be re-scheduled."
The injury was caused after the Mexican fighter slipped in the shower, cutting his chin and nose. The boxer suffered facial cuts, bruising to the head and broke two teeth in the fall.
His medical team said it would not sign him off to fight.
Frampton said that while he was disappointed, this was the right decision.
Earlier Frampton had issued an apology to his fans after coming in 1lb overweight ahead of the fight.
The Belfast boxer tipped the scales at 127lb, just over the 126lb featherweight limit.
