Carl Frampton's third fight with World featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz can happen in Belfast in 2018, according to American boxing powerbroker Richard Schaefer.
Schaefer co-promoted Frampton's second fight with rival Santa Cruz in Las Vegas in January and believes the clash to complete their trilogy would be worth an estimated £3million, assuming both men come through their respective upcoming battles.
Santa Cruz (right) will defend his title against fellow Mexican Abner Mares in October, while Frampton is targeting a world title clash with IBF champion Lee Selby before Christmas if he defeats Mexican Andres Gutierrez at Belfast's SSE Arena this Saturday night.
Speaking exclusively to the Belfast Telegraph, Schaefer said: "The fighters have to be rewarded in the best way, the numbers have to add up and if the most money can be earned by having the fight in Belfast then that's where it will be.
"It's a fight that has to happen next year. If Leo beats Abner Mares then a third fight with Frampton is the obvious one after that.
"It could happen in Los Angeles or Las Vegas or Belfast, it will come down to the numbers.
"They have had two great fights, two close fights and have proved to be two of the best warriors on boxing. Everyone wants to see the third fight, it would be huge. I know that Leo wants the fight, there is no doubt that."
