Conrad Cummings to make debut in London

By David Kelly

Conrad Cummings will make his professional debut on February 22 at the York Hall Bethnel Green, London.

Tyrone man Cummings, a member of Barry McGuigan's Cyclone Promotions outfit, has already been lined up for his home debut on April 4 on the supporting bill to Carl Frampton's World title eliminator with Mexican Hugo Cazarez at the Odyssey Arena.

But such has been his progress under the guidance of coach Shane McGuigan, he has been handed his debut on a BoxNation show later this month.

Jake McGuigan of Cyclone Promotions said: "We had planned to put Conrad out in mid March on the supporting bill to Frampton for his debut but with Carl boxing on April 4 we wanted to get him out earlier.

"He has been looking very good in the gym so the timing is right for him to start his professional career."

Jake's brother Shane has been delighted with the way Conrad has been working and has no doubt that he can move very quickly up the British middleweight rankings.

"When Conrad came over here for us to take a look at him I was immediately impressed and he has settled very well into the camp," said Shane.

"He's working at a higher intensity but has responded to that. He has real, natural power and it's just a case of refining a the technical side of things.

"The middleweight division is one of the most exciting and I've no doubt that after 12 months a lot of people will be talking about Conrad."

Hot prospect Cummings will start his professional career with a four rounder at the York Hall before immediately stepping up to a six-rounder on the Frampton-Cazarez bill.
