Date revealed for Carl Frampton's dream fight at Windsor Park in August

By Gareth Hanna

Carl Frampton will fight at Windsor Park on Saturday, August 18, according to promoter Frank Warren.

The date has today been confirmed by Warren, although Frampton's opponent is as yet unknown.

By beating Nonito Donaire last month, Frampton became the WBO interim World Featherweight champion and mandatory challenger for Oscar Valdez' belt.

But with Valdez recovering from a broken jaw, Frampton could yet take on the winner of Lee Selby and Josh Warrington's fight for the IBF title instead.

"I think it's the 18th, yes. This fight would be the cherry on the cake (of a great boxing summer)," Warren said.

"He is interim champion. Valdez is the champion but has a bad jaw injury. We don't know when Valdez is going to fight but he has to fight against Carl.

"We also have Josh Warrington and Lee Selby coming up in a couple of weeks' time. There are a lot of things to look at.

"I promised Carl a fight at Windsor Park and we are going there in August. He's got my word on that, that's going to happen.

"Belfast has always been a great fight town but it has come alive alive with the fights going on now and the catalyst is Carl. We have Mick Conlan coming back (to box in Belfast), and we have Paddy Barnes. It's a privilege to be promoting Carl.

"Now as we get to Windsor Park, that will be another big box ticked for me and I know it will be for Carl as well. We're going to get an emotional and a great night for his home fans."

Fast forward to 49.45 for Warren and Frampton's discussion about the upcoming fight right here:
