Lisburn boxer Kurt Walker is out of the AIBA World Championships after being beaten in his quarter-final by Mongolia's Tsendbaatar Erdenebat.

The 24-year-old was beaten on a unanimous points decision in Ekaterinburg, Russia and won't get to box for a medal as a result.

The Mongolian No.3 seed, however, proved too strong, winning on all five judges' scorecards - three judges scoring it 30-27 and the other two 29-28.

Walker may feel slightly aggrieved by the decision, especially given he seemed to control the fight for parts around the second and third rounds, but ultimately he is heading home.

It also means that Ireland will not win a medal at the World Championships for the first time since 2007.
