Lisburn boxer Kurt Walker eyes Olympic gold after taking European title
Kurt Walker believes the next 12 months could be simply sensational as he aims to take on the best bantamweights in the world.
Fresh from winning gold at the European Games, the Lisburn man will have a break before turning his sights on the World Championships later this year - and then his countdown to the Tokyo Olympics next summer.
"I'm now the European No.1 so I have to be thinking about a World medal now and a shot at gold in Tokyo," said Walker, who triumphed in Minsk with victory over Ukraine's Mykola Butsenko in Sunday's bantam decider.
"I know there's a lot more to come from me. I've dedicated myself like never before over the past 14 months and it has paid off again and again.
"My coaches got the tactics spot on for my semi-final and final and I just did what they asked - and what really stood out was my fitness. I couldn't believe the engine I had, particularly when I had to dig deep.
"I'm flying at the moment and after a couple of weeks off I can't wait to get back and prepare for the World Championships. I feel great."
