McGuigan honoured on back of Carl Frampton title joy

Shane McGuigan has been named the Philips Ireland manager of the month for February on the back of Carl Frampton's latest ring success.

Frampton added the WBA World super-bantamweight title to his IBF belt when he outpointed bitter rival Scott Quigg at the Manchester Arena on February 27.

McGuigan, son of former World featherweight champion Barry, has played a crucial part in Frampton's rise to World glory and believes the Belfast man has the ability and power to reign for some time to come.

"Carl's the first fighter I've ever worked with and he's managed to become a World champion in the space of four and a half years. So it's an incredible journey, and it's one that I've massively cherished," said McGuigan.

The 27-year-old also coaches former World heavyweight champion David Haye and top super-middle George Groves.
