Watch: Paddy Barnes' rival Slavchev hit in pocket for antics after hoisting Belfast boxer on shoulders during bout

By David Kelly

Bulgarian Stefan Slavchev is paying a heavy price for doing his best to spoil the professional debut of Paddy Barnes at the Titanic Exhibition Centre, Belfast on Saturday night.

Barnes was handed victory when Slavchev was disqualified by referee Hugh Russell jnr for hoisting the Belfast man over his shoulders in the fourth round of their flyweight clash. Consequently, it is understood the British Boxing Board of Control have withheld an undisclosed amount of his purse.

Double Olympic bronze medallist Barnes admitted that he was left "frustrated" with the antics of Slavchev who persistently held and on two occasions pushed Barnes to the canvas.

"Obviously everybody knows what journeymen do, they come to survive but I couldn't even make a fight out of it. It was frustrating," said Barnes.

"I could've slowed down a bit and maybe I'd have caught him but I just wanted to fight."
