Braehead extend winning run

Braehead Clan powered on at the top of the Elite League standings after seeing off Dundee Stars 6-2 to record their seventh successive victory.

The Clan received further good news from Cardiff Arena, where their nearest challengers the Nottingham Panthers were being humbled 7-2 by the Devils.

Nottingham actually took the lead in that match, Jonathan Boxill netting in the first period, but Cardiff roared back with goals from Carl Hudson, Joey Haddad, Andrew Lord, Chris Culligan, Doug Clarkson, Joey Martin and Jake Morissette to pick up the win.

Nottingham, whose other goal came from Chris Lawrence in the second period, are now six points behind Braehead and just a point ahead of Belfast Giants, who beat Sheffield Steelers 1-0 after a penalty shootout - Mike Kompon getting the decisive breakthrough.

Also on Saturday, Hull Stingrays overcame Fife Flyers 6-3.
