Carl Frampton seeks Christmas return despite twist in McGuigan split

By David Kelly

Former World champion Carl Frampton will no doubt keep his sights firmly fixed on a return to the ring, despite some dispute over whether or not he is still contracted managerially to Barry McGuigan.

The British Boxing Board of Control have stated they still have a contract lodged between both parties, though Frampton has made it clear that he is now in full control of his career.

The Belfast man recently linked up with new coach Jamie Moore and is actively seeking to secure a deal with a new promoter.

"I want a fight before the end of the year so I can enjoy Christmas for the first time in a long while," said Frampton.

Whether or not he is still contracted to McGuigan as his manager, that should not prevent him signing with a new promoter and kick-starting his career with a fight in December.

Frampton, who says he is a free agent, insists that any deal - expected within weeks - with a new promoter will have to include the guarantee of a big fight at Windsor Park.
