Alan Green: Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has one heck of an ego
Am I alone in thinking Sam Allardyce must be the most arrogant football manager that’s ever lived?
Let’s see now — precisely what has ‘Big Sam’ ever achieved? How could you forget that Third Division Championship with Notts County in 1998? Or taking Bolton to a League Cup Final and, ever so briefly, into the UEFA Cup? He’s got a phenomenal record, hasn’t he?
And the ever-so-modest Blackburn boss was telling his press conference last week — how the reporters didn’t crack up laughing is beyond me — that he’s good enough to manage any of Europe’s top clubs.
“I would be more suited to Inter Milan or Real Madrid. It wouldn’t be a problem for me to manage those clubs because I would win the double or the league every time.”
Limerick must rue the day he left and San Siro and the Bernabeu don’t know what they’re missing. Nor, of course, England. Fetch those men in the white coats.
And . . . Blackburn 1 Fulham 1, another great result for ‘Big Sam’ — was Diouf’s barge on Schwarzer something he was told to do?
