Alan Green: Chelsea could become popular!

For personal reasons, I had to give Wembley a miss on Saturday and, untypical of recent FA Cup finals, missed a very good game.

Though it had only the one goal, there could have been many others, most of them for Chelsea. As with the Premier League, Carlo Ancelotti’s team thoroughly deserved to win their first ever ‘Double’. Even given the off the field antics of John Terry and Ashley Cole, the Italian coach is in serious ‘danger’ of making them a popular club.

A few things struck me when I watched the television coverage from Belfast. Firstly Ronnie Rosenthal can sleep easier in his bed in nights to come. Salomon Kalou’s astonishing miss eclipses that of the Israeli who, many years ago, missed a famous sitter for Liverpool against Aston Villa. Further, the referee, Chris Foy (pictured), did football a gross disservice by not sending off Boateng and Dindane for their challenges on Michael Ballack and Ashley Cole, making me quite happy Portsmouth lost.
