Biting Back: Can Brendan the Builder fix it? Yes he can

By Steven Beacom

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool are 'a bit broken' having endured a disappointing start to the season.

The question, ahead of tomorrow's Merseyside derby with Everton, is can Brendan the Builder fix it?

Answer: Yes, he can.

Three defeats in the opening five Premier League games have rocked the Reds, but far from unnerve Rodgers, he will be more determined to work harder than ever to put his team on the right path and construct a formula that will see them consistently win football matches again.

Some say without Luis Suarez, now at Barcelona and chomping at the bit to make his debut against Real Madrid tomorrow, the Carnlough native's team look a shadow of the side they were last season when they played breathtaking football and almost won the title.

Of course you are going to miss a player of that quality, but his absence is not the main reason why Liverpool have struggled early on this time around.

Remember they did well without the Uruguayan, under Rodgers, on the many occasions the striker was suspended.

Liverpool's problem this season to date has been that none of their players, either the expensive summer recruits or those there previously, have performed to anywhere near the standards of which they are capable. From goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to striker Mario Balotelli, they have not delivered enough.

Against Everton at Anfield tomorrow would be the ideal time to start. Win that and watch Liverpool soar.
