Do you have a bucket list? If so, and you haven’t watched Ronnie O’Sullivan play snooker live yet, put that on.
Even if you don’t have one, go see the Rocket some day. You won’t be disappointed. He is a joy. It really is like viewing a master at work.
The natural talent for the game oozes out of him and it all seems so effortless.
That’s the thing about sporting greats though... so gifted they make it look easy. You’ll gather I’m an admirer of O’Sullivan, the snooker player.
Away from the table, though, he can be a frustrating figure. For instance, how often has he retired or said he’ll retire only to be back a month or even a year later? He’s made more comebacks than Frank Sinatra!
O’Sullivan also enjoys a moan more than most, such as at the ongoing UK Championships in which he is playing with a broken foot. (More hobbling than Hurricane, Alex Higgins did the same at an Irish Open years ago and won it).
After a victory on Sunday, Ronnie described the tables as “shocking” and slammed what he felt was a lack of atmosphere at the York venue, where the early rounds are being played on four tables at a time in front of the crowd, rather than the usual two.
“It’s like asking Roger Federer to go and play on court 13 at Wimbledon in front of three men and a dog,” complained O’Sullivan.
Feels like another retirement could be coming on. Never worry, he’ll be back before long. Make sure you get to see him then!
