Healy needs to sign big game players

By Scott Young

We have watched a resurgence in Linfield with David Healy as manager but the reality is that four years without a major trophy is a horrendously long time for the most successful club in the country.

When the Blues went on a strong run in the league, the players commented on the fact that people had questioned their hunger, desire and mental toughness.

That's fair enough, but Linfield simply did not turn up as they lost the Irish Cup final to Glenavon.

They are judged on the big games - the Big Two matches and Cup finals - and the players did not perform. I'm not having a go at Linfield because I'm a former Glentoran manager and player. In football, as in life, you have to deal with facts. It's been four years since the Blues won the league or Irish Cup and they must put that right.

I believe the club is moving in the right direction but the players can't go missing in big games. The fans must be patient and give David time because he will need to make a few changes to get the Blues to the top again.
