Kane can help England spring a surprise

By Steven Davis

I have been quite impressed with England since Gareth Southgate came in as manager.

I think he has managed to settle things down in terms of media expectancy and he has a group of players that he trusts.

The squad has scope for improvement and he has tinkered with the system since qualifying and now seems to have found a formation he likes with three at the back.

First and foremost they will be looking to get off to a good start against Tunisia on Monday, and if they can do that it will give them a foothold in the tournament and confidence and belief can grow from there.

I think England could be a bit of a surprise package. There's not as much pressure on this side compared with tournaments gone by and that will suit them.

England may not have the superstar names that they had in the past, but in Harry Kane they have a phenomenal goalscorer.

He now has the captaincy and from what I've seen he seems like a very level-headed lad. He will be determined to show what he is all about on the big stage and if the team can create chances for him he will hit the net.

Another one to watch will be Raheem Sterling, who is a really exciting player. He manages to get himself in some great positions and could maybe be a bit more clinical at times, but he has really grown this year under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in this World Cup.
