Jonathan Rea in the mood to weave even more magic at Imola

By Paul Lindsay

Ulsterman Jonathan Rea currently holds down fourth place in the World Superbike Championships standings following three podiums in the last four races, including a win last time out at Assen in the Netherlands.

His rich vein of form sends the Pata Honda rider into this weekend's fourth round of the series at Imola in a positive frame of mind.

"I really enjoy riding at Imola but the whole weekend is a great experience because there's always such an atmosphere at the track with all the passionate Italian fans, said the Ballyclare lad.

"I've actually been in Italy with my family since the last race at Assen, so I'm looking forward to the weekend here as the layout at Imola really suits the Pata Honda."

In total contrast to Rea, fellow Ulsterman Eugene Laverty has had a tough couple of race weekends with new team Voltcom Crescent Suzuki.

After a victory on the opening day in Australia back in February, Laverty struggled at Aragon, and two crashes at Assen further compounded his frustrations.

"Race day in Assen was perhaps the worst day of my career, but it's important to move on and focus on the next round," Laverty lamented.

"I'm confident that with a bit of luck we'll be fighting for the podium this weekend in Imola.

"Unfortunately we've slipped down the order in the championship following a double non-score in Assen, so we've got some catching up to do, but I'm looking forward to the challenge."
