Australia's players must summon up Steve Waugh spirit

Steven Beacom

By the time you read this, the opening day of the first Ashes Test will be over.

Even though it seems silly that England and Australia are playing each other again so soon after the summer, hopefully this series will be competitive, which has not been the case in the previous few.

For that to happen the Aussies must step up to the mark.

It's not good enough having the odd successful day...they need to deliver consistently with bat and ball to make this series compelling.

England, bar Jimmy Anderson and Ian Bell, didn't play that well last time and still won 3-0!

Australia's players should summon the spirit of former skipper Steve Waugh (pictured), who never knew when he was beaten, otherwise they'll get comprehensively whipped again.
