Brilliant Fugue can live American dream
The Fugue, an unlucky loser when favourite for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mares Turf over 10 furlongs at Santa Anita, returns to the Californian track on an atonement mission tonight.
But John Gosden's filly will this time tackle the colts in the Turf race over one and a half miles and she's quoted as a worthy 5/2 market leader to triumph as conditions of a sharp track and firm ground, should play to her strengths.
Her victories in the Yorkshire Oaks and Irish Champion Stakes in recent months confirmed her as being back to her brilliant best and she should have no problems this time.
However, the best bet of the two-day extravaganza rests with Wise Dan for a repeat win in the Breeders' Cup Mile. This fellow slaughtered the likes of Moonlight Cloud and Excelebration 12 months ago and meets nothing of that calibre here.
He was surprisingly beaten a length at Kenneland by Silver Max whom he meets again, but it was in atrocious conditions which will not be repeated at Santa Anita. That brought a nine-race winning streak to an end, but come tonight that blip will be forgotten as he should successfully blazes his way to another success.
Richard Hannon's Olympic Glory takes him on, fresh from his Queen Elizabeth Stakes Ascot success, but won't be suited by the turning bend or the faster surface. Also, he needs a bigger gap between his races so, at 5/6, the wisest investment is for the Man to deliver for a second time and further confirm his status as the world's best miler.
