The Punter: Doubts over Capello going the distance

England boss Fabio Capello may have won his personal battle with John Terry, but whether he’s around the team set-up longer than the Chelsea defender, remains to be seen.

Although, if the Three Lions don’t roar against Slovenia this afternoon, it could well be the end of the international road for both.

If Capello had alternative options, he would probably have had Terry out of the squad by now. Injuries and suspension prevented that.

The Italian has been cut from 100-30 to 2-1 to quit England before the end of the tournament.

Slovenia hold the key to his and several big name players’ futures.

If ever there was a time for ‘England expects,’ it is now or it’s really all over, for the players and manager.

But let’s reflect on Italia ’90. Back then, England were in the same position in their group, having drawn their opening two matches.

They beat Egypt to qualify and it was onwards and upwards towards the semi-finals. They’ll hope for a repeat this time.

Will Fabio Capello be in charge for England v Hungary on August 11: 2-7 yes; 12-5 no.
