The Punter: Junior is Paddy’s top tip

It's always worth heeding the advice of those in the know in any walk of life, none more so than when it comes to betting.

Paddy Wilmott is a racing owner and a professional punter with horses in Ireland and England so when he gives Junior as his best bet of the week at Cheltenham, it pays to listen.

He was a member of the pre-Cheltenham gathering in the Europa Hotel last week when putting up the selection which runs in the amateur's Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Chase.

Wilmott is very close to the David Pipe yard and will therefore have an insight into the thinking of the Pipe team — not something that many have access to. “The horse has been laid out for this for sure,” he said with conviction.

Best of the Irish on Paddy's Day may turn out to be Dermot Weld's Prince Erik but this prize hasn't gone to the Emerald Isle since Greasepaint 28 years ago, while Weld has not had a Festival winner in two decades.
