Brigade won the Ulster Cup by beating Ardmore 3-2 in a bowl-out as the miserable weather won in the end at Magheramason yesterday.

It was an unsatisfactory conclusion to what was shaping up as interesting final before the rain intervened.

The star of the show in that first half of the day was Brigade batsman Ryan Hunter who was last man out for 95 as his side were dismissed for 163 in the 38th over.

That completed a good fightback by Ardmore considering Brigade were well-placed at 101 for three at the mid-point of their innings but their attempted chase didn't last long.

Completing 10 overs of the second innings would have constituted a game but Ardmore managed just over half of that before the rain came an no further play was possible and Brigade held their nerve in the bowl-out.

The rain had also been a significant feature of Saturday's league programme as washouts for Ardmore and Coleraine allowed Eglinton to go clear at the top of the Long's SuperValu Premiership table.

The big beneficiaries were Eglinton who had only 140 to chase at Bready and duly did so in less than half their allotted overs.

It means Eglinton go into the run-in in pole position but the big story in the North West on Saturday came at the bottom of the table. Defeat at fellow strugglers Drummond means Strabane have been relegated from the top flight for the first time in their history, bringing to an end what was a remarkable record.

Strabane set Drummond a target of exactly 200 and they got there off the penultimate ball.

Drummond are two wins ahead of Strabane with two games left and the head-to-head rule means they can't be caught.
