Comber boys eye all-Ireland success

By Ian Callender

The Green in Comber is certainly the place to be this weekend with today's Ulster Bank Challenge Cup final followed tomorrow by the home club's biggest game of the season so far – the semi-final of the Irish Senior Cup against Leinster League champions The Hills.

It has been 19 years since North Down played in the final of the only all-Ireland competition, a third win in five appearances, and as captain Ryan Haire admits, this is one game that the long-servants want to be involved in.

"We are excited and looking forward to Saturday. Nick Larkin is back from Ireland duty and this is the one competition he really wants to win, just like all the overseas professionals before him and I've been trying to win it for 15 years, so this really is our moment," said Haire.

Meanwhile, Ireland Under-19s won the ICC Europe Challenge Series despite losing their last two games against Scotland.

Scores: Ireland U19s 86-9 (20 overs, J Tector 20; D Budge 5-22) Scotland Under 19s 89-3 (18.4 overs, D Budge 34 not out). Scotland won by 7 wickets.
