Knights go for Lightning hat-trick
The Northern Knights have the chance to finish the inter-provincial season in style over the next three days with a third win over champions Leinster Lightning.
The teams meet in the last three-day game of the season at Waringstown (11am start), with the Knights hoping to follow up their wins in the 20 overs and 50-over contests with a victory which would give them an identical three-day record.
However, Lightning won the game in Dublin against the Knights by an innings and the selectors have made just one change to the team that beat the North West Warriors to clinch the title two weeks ago.
Leinster's leading all-rounder Pat Collins drops out, but he has been replaced by Andrew Poynter, the Ireland international who scored a superb 102 not out in Clontarf's RSA Irish Cup victory over Merrion on Saturday.
The game offers Poynter and the other hopefuls a last chance to impress National Coach Phil Simmons before the team for Ireland's final Intercontinental Cup group game against Scotland, at Clontarf, starting on September 11.
One player who does not have to fight for his place is Kevin O'Brien, the captain for that game, and he will be only a spectator at The Lawn this week having just returned from a successful stint at the Caribbean Premier League where his team, Trinidad Red Steel, reached the semi finals.
