Ireland must beat tournament favourites Bangladesh to reach the Women's T20 World Cup after they lost to Thailand by two runs in their final group game in Dundee yesterday.
Set 93 for victory in a game reduced to 17 overs by rain, Ireland were on course while Shauna Kavanagh and Leah Paul were in the middle. They reduced the target to 11 from 13 balls, but both were dismissed with rash strokes in successive balls to leave the Irish reeling on 82-8.
Needing three off the last ball, Lara Maritz came down the pitch but missed and was stumped.
Significantly, Ireland bowled 13 wides, 10 more than Thailand.
