Mark Wood returns from IPL to boost Durham
The England bowler will be available against Derbyshire after ending his stay with the Chennai Super Kings.
Durham will have Mark Wood available for their Specsavers County Championship match with Derbyshire.
The England international has been absent at the Indian Premier League so far this season but after featuring in only one game for the Chennai Super Kings, he has been allowed to return to England.
An injury to opening bowler Chris Rushworth on Monday, in Durham’s extraordinary win having followed on against Leicestershire, means Wood’s return could be timely.
Coach Jon Lewis said: “It’s a massive boost to have Mark available for Friday. On the occasions we’ve had him available to play for us over the last few years, he’s made some great contributions.
“The IPL didn’t give him the playing opportunities he would have liked but he has still learnt from great players and this is a move which suits all parties.
“After managing to get over the line yesterday, Mark coming back into the squad gives us another dimension in the bowling line-up and we go into the Derbyshire match in better shape for his involvement.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to Andrew Strauss, the ECB, (coach) Stephen Fleming and the Chennai Super Kings for their co-operation in making Mark available.”
Wood earlier posted on Instagram, alongside a picture of his Chennai cap: “Having worked so hard to get back in the Test team, and because I’m not currently in the CSK side, I am coming home to play for Durham to hopefully put my name in the hat for Test match selection.
“It was a very proud moment for me to be presented my cap by (CSK captain) MS Dhoni. Although things didn’t quite go to plan this year, I hope to be able to wear it again.”
