Revenge planned for Sharjah as Ireland face Afghans in three-match ODI series

By Ian Callender

Ireland get the first chance to avenge this year's series defeat by Afghanistan when they face their new Full Member rivals in three one-day internationals in Sharjah in December.

The Afghans moved ahead of Ireland in all three formats with a convincing 7-2 series victory (3-2 in ODIs) in India in March so William Porterfield's side will have plenty to prove when they play three games in six days, at the UAE venue which has hosted a record 228 ODIs - the most recent yesterday when Pakistan completed a 5-0 series whitewash against Sri Lanka.

The games, on December 5, 7 and 10, take place immediately after the deciding Intercontinental Cup ties in the UAE with Afghanistan also in pole position in that competition, 12 points clear of Ireland, after their innings victory in two days over Hong Kong at the weekend.
