The Test match may still be in full flow but the first trophy of the NCU season will be decided tonight when Waringstown host CIYMS in the Lagan Valley Steels T20 Cup final.

For CIYMS it a chance to avenge their only defeat of the season which came back in the T20 group stages on a Thursday night in May when the holders won by five wickets. It was a vastly under-strength CI side and Waringstown captain Greg Thompson's half century proved the difference.

Thompson will again lead from the front tonight and hope that CI will miss Mark Adair more than Waringstown will miss his Ireland team-mate James McCollum and Kyle McCallan, who is on broadcasting duty at Lord's.

Waringstown are chasing a fourth successive T20 crown but they and their opponents tonight will know that their last defeat in the decider was in 2015, against CIYMS.

It the first game of a huge weekend for the Villagers who will hope to end a run of four consecutive defeats before they host Lisburn in the Premier League and then travel to Shaw's Bridge for their Irish Cup quarter-final against Instonians.

CI, meanwhile, are also in action tomorrow as the Premier League leaders go for an eighth successive win, at Carrickfergus.
