Waringstown captain Lee Nelson will miss the rest of the season with a broken hand.

Nelson suffered the freak injury to his left hand when fielding on the boundary in last Saturday’s Robinson Services League game again Civil Service North and the diagnosis confirmed it was broken in two places.

Adam Dennison takes over the captaincy but last night in his first match he was frustrated by the weather, only seven overs possible in the Villagers’ LVS T20 Cup game with CSN. However, the no result left them top of Group B and they will play CIYMS in the semi-final on July 16.

CSN will play Carrickfergus in the other semi-final after Carrick topped Group A with an eight-wicket win in a rain-affected game at Woodvale.

Only two of three games in the North West started but the no results were enough for Coleraine and Bonds Glen to join Newbuildings and holders Brigade in the FV Trophy semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Paul Stirling returned to the Birmingham Bears last night and hit 81 off 41 balls with seven sixes and four fours against Yorkshire Vikings before he was out in the 13th over.
