Young to lead charge for new-look Warriors

By Ian Callender

The North West Warriors have rung the changes for the final inter-provincial game of the season, at Strabane on Saturday, with new Ireland cap Craig Young one of six new faces from their previous one-day game.

Young is likely to share the new ball with Coleraine's Gareth Burns while David Barr, Jason Milligan and Brian Allen are joined in the squad by young Eglinton spinner Ross Allen, as replacements for the unavailable Johnny Thompson, Scott Campbell and Rick-Lee Dougherty. Andy Britton and Peter Connell are the other changes from the team that lost to the Northern Knights at Comber. David Rankin will keep wicket.

Kevin O'Brien returns to captain the Lightning squad as a straight replacement for his injured Ireland team-mate John Mooney for a game where victory will give them all three-inter-provincial trophies this season.

The visitors have had to make four enforced changes to the team that lost to the Knights at Waringstown last month, but the side is hardly weakened with the return of internationals Fintan McAllister, as wicket-keeper, Andrew Poynter and Andrew Balbirnie plus former under-19 international Barry McCarthy.

Warriors: A McBrine (capt), B Allen, R Allen, D Barr, G Burns, I Hussain, N McDonnell, J Milligan, D Rankin, A Riddles, S Thompson, C Young

Lightning: K O'Brien (capt), B Ackland, J Anderson, A Balbirnie, P Chase, T Kane, F McAllister, B McCarthy, A Poynter, E Richardson, M Sorensen, A van der Merwe.
