The Roma boss made the gesture during his side's 3-2 defeat at Juventus on Sunday night.
He appeared outraged after Maicon Sisenando was deemed to have handled the ball inside the box - conceding a penalty.
His apparent playing of the lesser-known air violin earned him a place in the stands.
Then, watching from the stands, referee Gianluca Rocchi gave another controversial penalty.
Speaking after the match he said:
"Things got a bit too tense out there but normally you have a ref who knows how to deal with those things.
"Perhaps it's time to help the referees work out when it's a goal or a penalty."
